There’s a new name you’ll be hearing a lot this summer: Choi Wan. Landing at House of Social, Manchester’s hottest new food hall, this kitchen is all about serving up next-level Cantonese-inspired street food — with deep roots and big flavours to back it up.
Choi Wan is all about repping the bold, vibrant food culture of Hong Kong — think rich broths, silky noodles, char siu that melts in your mouth, and punchy sauces that hit just right. It’s modern Cantonese food done with serious love. Whether you’re a chopstick pro or just dipping your toes into HK cuisine, their menu is designed to hit all the right notes.
But here’s what makes it really special — it’s a passion project by Victor Yu and Executive Chef Bruno, a duo bringing serious credentials and soul to the table.
Victor Yu isn’t new to the food world. He grew up surrounded by flavour, learning the art of Cantonese cooking from his father — including his dad’s now-legendary curry sauce. Victor’s vision is all about bridging tradition and innovation — using recipes he grew up with, infused with nostalgia, and giving them a fresh, modern twist. And he’s not doing it alone.
Bruno, the man behind the pans, is no stranger to the high-end kitchen hustle. With experience at Michelin-starred Northcote and The Samling, he’s bringing fine-dining flair to the world of street food. Expect top-tier ingredients, some of which you wouldn’t usually find in this setting, and flavour combinations that’ll surprise you in all the best ways.
The food? Let’s just say you’ll want to try everything. Signature dishes include Chicken Bamboo (a dish with over 30 years of family history), Prawn Toast Crumpet (a reimagined classic that brings texture, comfort and a little fun to your plate) and Rotisserie Chicken, Cantonese Style – a Chinese twist on a sharing favourite. Crispy skin, juicy meat, bold flavours.
Whether you’re a die-hard Cantonese cuisine fan or just curious about something new, Choi Wan is one of the most exciting openings in Manchester this year. And we’re so excited to say that Choi Wan will be making House of Social, their home.
We’ll see you at the table!
